FIGURES 1–9. (1–3) Metasternum: (1) Hydatothrips abdominalis View in CoL , (2) H. proximus View in CoL , (3) Neohydatothrips trypherus View in CoL ; (4–5) abdominal tergum V: (4) N. trypherus View in CoL , (5) H. abdominalis View in CoL . (6–7) Sericothrips houji View in CoL : (6) abdominal terga II–IV, (7) head and pronotum. (8–9) H. longjingensis View in CoL sp. n.: (8) head and pronotum, (9) forewing. (Scale bar=50 microns).
H. jiawensis View in CoL was described from a single female, and distinguished from the Indian species, H. proximus View in CoL , by the following characters: wrinkles present on exterior margin of pronotal blotch area outside; abdominal terga without microtrichia on segments II–VII. However, these species are similar especially in the absence of microtrichia on abdominal tergum X and the colour of the body. No differences could be found between the two specimens of jiawensis View in CoL listed below and the description of proximus View in CoL . Females of H. chinensis View in CoL are also similar to H. proximus View in CoL in morphology, but males of chinensis View in CoL have a pore plate (=glandular area) only on abdominal sternum V, whereas according to Wang (2007) H. proximus View in CoL has shorter pore plates only on sterna VI and VII.
