Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii Thomson, 1868 View in CoL

Bisaltes buquetii Thomson, 1868: 111 View in CoL .

Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii ( Thomson, 1868) View in CoL ; for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 373 (cat.). Bisaltes batesi Aurivillius, 1923: 609 View in CoL (cat.).

Ptericoptus forsteri Tippmann, 1960: 152 View in CoL , pr. 9, fig. 21a.

Bisaltes (Bisaltes) forsteri ( Tippmann, 1960) View in CoL ; Breuning, 1971: 284 (rev.). Bisaltes (Bisaltes) fuchsi Breuning, 1971: 284 View in CoL ; for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 374 (cat.). Syn. nov.

Comparison of the original descriptions of Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii View in CoL and B. (B.) fuchsi View in CoL , and photographs of the holotype of the latter with specimens of the former deposited at MZSP allows us to conclude that they are the same species. The description of B. (B.) buquetii sensu Breuning (1971) View in CoL does not agree with the specimens of that species deposited at MZSP or with photograph of holotype of Ptericoptus forsteri Tippmann, 1960 View in CoL , that was synonymized with this species by Tavakilian (1997). Breuning (1971) separated B. (B.) fuchsi View in CoL of B. (B.) buquetii View in CoL and B. (B.) fuscoapicalis View in CoL in the alternative of couplet “3” (translation):

“3. Elytra with a very small premedian circular black spot, common to suture................................... B. fuchsi View in CoL - Elytra without such a spot............................................................................... 4 4. Third antennal article shorter than fourth, the articles 5 to 11darker at apex................................ B. buquetii View in CoL - Third antennal article slight longer than fourth, the articles 5 to 11 red monochrome.................... B. fuscoapicalis View in CoL "

In the redescription of B. (B.) buquetii, Breuning View in CoL also did not mention the presence of a black spot on basal half of elytra. Breuning (1971) separated B. (B.) forsteri View in CoL of B. (B.) buquetii View in CoL in the alternative of couplet “2” (translation): However, the comparison of the photographs of the types of B. (B.) forsteri View in CoL and B. (B.) fuchsi View in CoL shows, very clear, that the apical third of the elytra in both species are identical. This reinforces the conclusion that B. (B.) buquetii sensu Breuning (1971) View in CoL corresponds to another species however, we could not identify the species involved. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) fuchsi View in CoL is considered herein a new synonym of B. (B.) buquetii View in CoL .
