Diagnosis. Daternomina bifida resembles D. ikathan and D. scissura in the general shape of the inferior appendages in ventral view, but differs in the following fine detail: the inferior appendages about equal in length to the superior appendages; in ventral view, the inferior appendages length is equal to the width, the meso-distal split separates distal four-fifths, the apices are relatively narrow; and the phallus doesn’t have a robust pair of processes situated dorso-laterally.

Description. Head, body and wings brown; wings similar to D. irrorata ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ) except fork 2 nygma absent. Forewing length about 3.0–3.3 times width: male 4.1–4.5 mm, female 4.5 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, about 1.3–1.4 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, with short footstalk, fork 3 greater than 5 times length footstalk, footstalk between 0.7–1.1 times length cross-vein m; r-m and m sepa- rated at fork 3 by about 1.5–1.6 times length of cross-vein m; fork 4 present, shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 3.0–3.2 times width, fork 2 sessile, length about 1.3– 1.5 times length of fork 3.

Male Tergum X membranous ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 46–51 ). Superior appendages laterally compressed; in lateral view robust, sub-rectangular, length about 3 times width ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 46–51 ); in dorsal view, slender, length about 6 times width, with several small processes on mesal margin subapically and one in basal half ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 46–51 ). Phallus simple, tube-like, dilated slightly distally, with pairs of spines apically, embedded subapically and a pair of slender hooked processes dorsally; with a single, down-curved process (phallic guide) arising from near the base of the inferior appendages ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 46–51 ). Inferior appendages robust, dorso-ventrally flattened; in ventral view fused in basal fifth to form a single plate, distal four fifths separated narrowly by a deep mesal split, with pair of relatively narrow apices ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 46–51 ); in lateral view robust, length about 3 times width, broadest basally, tapered gradually distally ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 46–51 ).

Female. Genitalia with a pair of large, semi-ovoid, narrowly separated ‘tongue-shaped’ lobes on sternite VIII ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 55–62 ).

Etymology. Bifida - Latin word for split into two parts (inferior appendages).

Remarks. Daternomina bifida is relatively common and widespread, being recorded from many sites in south-eastern Queensland, eastern New South Wales and eastern Victoria (latitudinal range 25°15'- 38°09' S).
