Souza & Luize (in Sobral et al. 2015: 165). Type:— BRAZIL. Amazonas, Codajás, 23 July 2011, Luize 411 (holotype INPA [243025]!; isotype RB) .

Myrcia irregularis resembles M. uaupensis , M. mcvaughii and M. cuspidata . Myrcia irregularis does not have sympodial branching at the base of inflorescence and has an irregularly tearing calyptra ( Sobral et al. 2015). For these reasons, the species is placed in M. sect. Aulomyrcia .
