Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality of some of the paratypes.
Diagnosis. Males of S. guapiassu n.sp. are distinguished from those of the remaining Scytodes by the palp with a subdistal, ventral lamina ( Fig. 33–35 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). The females are distinguished by the single, large hyaline pocket with large lateral sclerotized areas in the epigynum ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ).
Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 53666) Carapace pale orange, medially lighter, with brown pattern as shown on Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 . Chelicerae pale orange with dorsal, longitudinal, brown stripe. Pedipalps pale orange with dorsal and prolateral brown markings. Labium and endites pale yellow. Sternum pale yellow with brown margins in front of each coxae. Legs pale orange. Femur I–IV with pair of ventral, longitudinal brown stripes. Tibia I–IV with median, transversal brown band and brown distal extremities. Abdomen pale gray with black pattern ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). Total length 3.9. Carapace slightly domed, 2.0 long, 1.6 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.14, ALE 0.16, PLE 0.16. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and 6–7 slightly conspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.16 long, 0.28 wide. Sternum 1.02 long, 0.88 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 5.8, patella 0.5, tibia 6.6, metatarsus 7.7, tarsus 0.8, total 21.4; II: 4.0, 0.5, 4.1, 4.7, 0.7, 14.0; III: 2.4, 0.5, 2.2, 2.6, 0.5, 8.2; IV: 3.8, 0.5, 3.4, 4.0, 0.5, 12.2. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick short and stout on triangular, projected socket. Cymbium with pair of strong, distal spines ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). Bulb 0.64 long, medially constricted. Distal region spoon-like with retrolateral, sclerotized process and subdistal, ventral lamina ( Figs. 33–35 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). Abdomen 1.9 long, 1.4 wide, covered with slender hairs.
Female (Paratype, IBSP 53673). Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 3.7. Carapace domed, 2.3 long, 2.0 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.16, ALE 0.14, PLE 0.16. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae as in male. Labium 0.2 long, 0.2 wide. Sternum 1.08 long, 0.96 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 3.7, patella 0.6, tibia 4.0, metatarsus 4.8, tarsus 0.8, total 13.8; II: 2.9, 0.5, 2.9, 3.2, 0.6, 10.1; III: 1.9, 0.5, 1.5, 2.0, 0.5, 6.4; IV: 2.8, 0.5, 2.5, 2.8, 0.7, 9.3. Palpal femur as in male. Epigynum with large and ridged, slightly V-shaped positioning ridges ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). Vulva with rounded spermathecae on short stalks adjacent to single, large, hyaline pocket with large, lateral sclerotized areas ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 32 – 43. 32 – 37 ). Abdomen 2.7 long, 1.8 wide, as in male.
Variation. Seven males: total length 3.4–4.0; carapace 1.8–2.1; femur I 4.1–5.8; bulb 0.58–0.64. Ten females: total length 4.2–5.0; carapace 2.0–2.4; femur I 2.6–3.8.
Distribution. Atlantic Forest. Known from southern state of Bahia to northern state of Rio de Janeiro.
