Remark. The short description of Kult (1951 , p. 26) specifies two individuals, a “TYPE” from the Philippine Islands and a “ Paratype ” from Sarawak , both of them indicated as females. Investigation revealed, that both are males, and display distinct differences in the outer integument and of the male genitalia. So, they are not conspecific. The “TYPE” from the Philippine Islands is designated here as lectotype , the “ Paratype ” is described as a new species (see C. geiseri sp. nov. ). Type material. Lectotype by present designation: ♂ , with labels and data: white, handwritten in black ink “ Philippines Isl. Pulobatu ” / red, black framed and black printed “TYPE” / white, handwritten in black ink and black printed “ C. subdepressa Kt. det. K. Kult , 1948” / white, black printed “COLLECTIO KAREL KULT COLL. A.DOSTAL, 1999” ( CADW ). Remark. The median lobe is slightly damaged at the oroficium and the parameres are severely damaged, looking like a dissection attempt. Missing parts are: left front leg, right intermediate tarsomeres, left hind tibia and tarsomeres. At the right front leg, the apical spine is broken by half. Lectotype : Body length 4.78 mm , width 1.45 mm ; ratio L/W of pronotum 0.95; ratio L/W of elytra 1.78. Second specimen (non-type): Body length 5.15 mm , width 1.52 mm ; ratio L/W of pronotum 0.97; ratio L/W of elytra 1.87. Colour glossy, ferruginous. Supraantennal plate and clypeal-wing translucent. Intermediate and hind legs yellowish. Head a fifth narrower than pronotum. Clypeus with central part indistinctly convex, laterally with distinctly projecting teeth, separated from clypeal-wing by distinct obtuse notch; wing slightly toothed anteriorly, not as projecting as clypeal-teeth, separated from supraantennal plate by obtuse-angled notch, supraantennal plate with margin laterally rectangular, rounded at angle; clypeus, wing, and supraantennal plate in posterior part reflexed margined. Supraantennal plate extended posteriorly into an obtuse keel, separated from wing by a moderate furrow. Clypeus with transverse slightly convex field, clypeal-furrow indistinct. Frons moderately convex, with longitudinal pore at middle, with indistinct small punctures, separated from supraantennal plate and supraorbital carina by furrow, with clypeal seta in front; supraorbital carinae of moderate size, fused with frons in posterior half of the carina, with two supraorbital setigerous punctures at middle of eye and posterior end of the gena. Neck constriction closed, formed by a step from frons, neck completely covered with rough punctures. Eye regularly sized, gena small but distinct. Antenna long, reaching up to base of elytron. Labrum nearly straight, trapezoid, distinctly attenuated anteriorly, isodiametrically reticulated basally, five-setose. Mentum isodiametrically reticulated, without keel at middle, lobe wide-oval, flattened, cleft for palpomeres small, short, median tooth wide, distinctly higher than lobes. Pronotum ( Fig. 51 ) with disk distinctly flattened in frontal and lateral view. Distinctly cordate, slightly wider than long. Reflexed lateral margin smooth, convex laterally in anterior half, widest slightly anterior middle; anterior angle widely rounded off, posterior angle distinct, not sharp, with concavity anterior to posterior angle; lateral channel moderately wide, somewhat flattened, irregularly to isodiametrically reticulated, continuing up to base as narrow, nearly straight margin. Median line wide, engraved, complete, with short transverse wrinkles basally. Anterior transverse line formed by connected punctures, not joining median line, not reaching anterior margin. Disk with few scattered punctures in basal half, with few transverse wrinkles laterally and basally, with isodiametric reticulation laterally at base, with impression of posterior setigerous puncture with large diameter, conspicuously distant from margin. Lateral margin from posterior angle to flange of base slanted with angle of around 45°. Basal channel on flange conspicuously widened, wider than lateral channel, with narrow, obtuse carina. Elytron ( Fig. 16 ) with disk in frontal and lateral view distinctly flattened. Shape of elytra elongate, about two-fifth longer than wide, with lateral margin indistinctly convex at middle and diverging, maximum width posterior middle. Humerus rounded off and prominent anteriorly. Reflexed lateral margin subcrenulated in anterior half. Row of setigerous punctures in the lateral channel more distant at middle. Scutellar striole distinct; setigerous tubercle at base of first stria distinct, with small tubercle at base of third interval, basal declivity overhanging for a short distance, with isodiametric reticulation. Striae moderately deep, nearly impunctate, one to four free at base, five and six joining at humerus, one and two ending free at apex, three and four, and five and six joining at apex. Intervals slightly convex, interval three with four setigerous punctures joining third stria, interval seven and eight not carinate, seventh running to apex as obtuse convexity, convexity of eighth ending before apex. Surface of interval one to seven glossy on disk, interval eight with isodiametric reticulation. Hind wing fully developed. Lower surface with proepisternum isodiametrically reticulated, with fine transverse wrinkles. Sternite of abdomen laterally with isodiametric reticulation, with transverse shingle-like reticulation at middle. Last visible sternite with the two marginal setigerous punctures are widely separated, with two small lappets. Legs. Profemur with transverse rugae. Protibia covered with longitudinal reticulation, with indistinct sulcus dorsally, with three spines; first tarsomere elongated, distinctly flattened at base, with acute tubercle at middle of tarsomere. Intermediate tibia with six tubercles at the lateral side, with slender spur near apex, all setae furnished. Tarsomeres of front and intermediate leg widened. Addition from the non-type specimen. The acute tubercle at middle of the front tarsomere is furnished with a short but robust seta. The apical spine is indistinctly widened apically. Male genitalia ( Fig. 85 ) with median lobe moderately and regularly arcuate at middle, apically slightly widened and somewhat flattened. Parameres moderately slender, with small apophysis, nearly not distorted, hyaline apically, asetose. Female gonocoxites and epipleurite unknown. Variation. In the non-type specimen, the reticulation of interval eight is more distinct as well as the row of setigerous punctures in the lateral channel. In addition, the specimen shows a very small tubercle at the base of interval four. Distribution. Known from the Philippine Islands , Pulobatu and Mindanao. Diagnosis. A small sized ferruginous species with distinctly cordate pronotum and interval eight of the elytron reticulated. Three of the species with distinctly cordate pronotum, C. geiseri sp. nov. , C. subdepressa Kult , and C. depressiforma sp. nov. show in addition a conspicuously elongated flange of the pronotum with flat basal carina. C. subdepressa Kult differs from all of them mainly by the five-setose labrum, the nearly smooth surface of the pronotum, and the smooth lateral margin of the pronotum. In addition, C. depressiforma sp. nov. differs by the pronotum with the laterally and acutely projecting teeth of the posterior angles and the coreaceate-like opaque surface, and the conspicuously rounded off anterior angles. In C. geiseri sp. nov. , the surface of the pronotum is glossy and shows some medium-sized punctures. Moreover, the male aedeagi of the three species are very different.
