Allotropa loundsburyi Ashmead

Allotropa loundsburyi Ashmead, 1901: 138 (original description); Kieffer 1926: 572 (description, keyed); Masner and Muesebeck 1968: 75 (lectotype designation); Annecke and Prinsloo 1977: 105 (emendation, information on type locality); Vlug 1995: 12 (catalogued, type information).

Material examined.

Holotype: South Africa • ♀; Cape Colony ; 22 Oct. 1898; C.P. Lounsbury; ex Dactylopius sp. on gorse; Cat. No. 5727 (USNM).

Comments.

The NHMUK specimen database states that specimens from South Africa: Nelspruit, v.1932 ex Pseudococcus are almost certainly a misidentification of A. kamburovi by Ferrière; A. loun(d)sburyi was originally reared from gorse. Specimens in very bad condition.

Biology.

Parasitoid of Dactylopius sp. ( Hemiptera , Dactylopiidae ) on gorse ( Ashmead 1901).

Distribution.

South Africa ( Ashmead 1901).
