Xiangothaumaspis falcatus Xin, Wang & Shi View in CoL sp. nov. (ẘaeaeIJǿ)
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 3 View FIGURE 3 )
Description. Male. Body small. Face slightly tilted backwards. Fastigium verticis conical, obtuse apically, not furrowed dorsally. Eyes faintly globular, obviously protruding forwards. Apical segment of maxillary palpus nearly equal to subapical one, apex swollen, truncate.
Pronotum longer, posterior margin reaching anterior margin of third abdominal tergite, anterior margin nearly straight while posterior margin rounded ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ); lateral lobe longer than high, posterior margin tapering, without humeral sinus ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ). Tegmina short, apices reaching posterior margin of fourth abdominal tergite, apices rounded; hind wings absent ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A–B). Thoracic auditory spiracle small, exposed, not hidden under pronotum.
All femora without spines on ventral surface, genicular lobes with apices rounded. Procoxa with 1 short spine, protibia with 4 spines respectively of which apical spines shorter on both sides of ventral surface; tibial tympana open and ovoid on both sides. Mesotibia with 3 spines on internal margin and 4 spines on external margin of ventral surface. Posttibia with 24–27 spines on internal and external margins of dorsal surface separately, bearing 1 pair of apical spurs on dorsal and ventral surfaces separately.
Ninth abdominal tergite broad, lateral margins expanded downwards and backwards, apices on ventral areas slender, subacute and slightly curved inwards ( Fig.1D, F View FIGURE 1 ). Tenth abdominal tergite extended backwards with a Yshaped longitudinal sulcus in the midline, posterior margin concave, ventral surface of subapical area with a posterior process, tip crescent-like ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C–E, I). Cercus bent inwards and intersected, base 2/3 roughly cylindrical, with 1 stout and short process near middle area on dorsal surface; apical 1/3 slightly broadened, sickle-shaped, bent inwards, apex slightly rounded ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 , F–H). Genitalia sclerotized, posterior margin extended outwards, the middle upcurved ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 F–H). Subgenital plate with basal area broad, raised dorsally, posterior margin with a triangular concavity; styli with apices obtuse, inserted on ventral surface of inner margin of lateral corners of subgenital plate ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ).
Female. The shape and length of pronotum and tegmina are similar to those of male. Ninth abdominal tergite broad, lateral margins slightly protruding backwards. Tenth abdominal tergite narrow. Cerci conical, apices slightly pointed ( Fig. 1K View FIGURE 1 ). Ovipositor stout at base, gradually narrowing towards tip, apical half upcurved, dorsal valvulae with apices acute, ventral ones with apices unciform ( Fig. 1L View FIGURE 1 ). Subgenital plate with basal half broad, basal area on dorso-lateral surface with a slender lateral process separately, apex acute; apical half of subgenital plate narrowing, posterior margin with a V-shaped concavity ( Fig. 1J View FIGURE 1 ).
Coloration. Body yellowish brown. The upper area of frons dark brown, and lower area brown. Internal margins of antennal scape and pedicel blackish brown. Metazona with 1 pair of short longitudinal dark brown stripes; lateral lobe blackish brown. Tegmina with posterior margin blackish brown, other area with some brown spots. Genicular lobes and apex of posttibia blackish brown. Lateral surfaces of abdomen blackish brown, ventral surface blackish brown. Male genitalia blackish brown. Basal half of ovipositor dark brown.

Measurements (mm). Body: ♂ 9.4 – 9.6, ♀ 12.2; pronotum: ♂ 4.2 – 4.3, ♀ 3.9; tegmina: ♂ 2.4 – 2.6, ♀ 2.2; post-femora: ♂ 8.2 – 8.4, ♀ 8.2; ovipositor: 5.4.
Distribution. China (Hunan).
Etymology. The name of new species is derived from apices of male cerci sickle-shaped, Latin “ falcatus ” means sickle-shaped.
