Description. Female ( Figs 87–91 View FIGURES 87–92 ). Integument mostly dark brown, almost black dorsally; ventral mouthparts mostly dark reddish brown, lighter on apex of palpomeres; anteclypeus brown with irregular dark-brown areas interspersed; gulamentum brown centrally; antennomere III brown basally, dark brown on remaining basal half and apical quarter, brown on remaining apical half; antennomeres IV–VI reddish brown basally, dark brown on remaining surface, darker on apex; antennomere VII reddish brown basally, brown on remaining surface; antennomeres VIII–X light brown basally, brown on remaining surface. Pronotum with eight black maculae, one on each side close to anterior margin, near each other, one on each side of middle, sinuous, longitudinal, from anterior quarter to posterior margin, together almost U-shaped, on small on each side of middle, and one on each side close to posterior margin, this later is a continuation of wide oblique band on sides of prothorax; another narrow X-shaped macula on each side of anterior half. Part of coxae, entire trochanters, and femoral peduncles orangish brown. Tarsomeres III–V brownish. Abdominal ventrites 1–4 dark brown laterally, brown centrally, more dark reddish brown on of 3–4, with irregular dark reddish-brown areas, except orangish-brown apex of 3–4; ventrite 5 blackish laterally and apically, mostly dark reddish brown on remaining surface.

Head. Frons densely, finely punctate; with dense pale-yellow pubescence on large triangular central area close on inferior half, irregular yellow pubescent macula laterally close to postclypeus, abundant yellowish pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining inferior half and superior half close to eyes, and yellow pubescence on remaining superior half, except glabrous median groove, narrow, subcordiform dark-brown pubescent band centrally on superior half, and wide, oblique dark-brown pubescent macula on each side of superior half, partially fused to subcordiform band.Area between antennal tubercles with abundant brown pubescence partially obscuring integument, with yellow pubescence interspersed, except glabrous median groove. Remaining surface of vertex and superior area behind upper eye lobes with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence, this pubescent area triangularly narrowed toward prothorax on center of vertex, and large dark-brown pubescent macula on each side, this macula reaching about middle of area behind upper eye lobe. Remaining surface behind upper eye lobes with abundant yellow pubescence close to eye and close to anterior dark-brown pubescent macula, and wide, sinuous yellow pubescent band starting at the connection between the two anterior areas with yellow pubescence, dark brown pubescence between yellow pubescence close to eye and sinuous yellow pubescent band, and glabrous close to prothorax. Area behind lower eye lobes with dense pale-yellow pubescence close to eye, this area widened on inferior third, glabrous close to prothorax. Genae 0.44 times length of lower eye lobe; with abundant pale-yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous apex. Antennal tubercles with abundant pale-yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument, except large brown pubescent macula on inferior half of dorsal surface. Wide central area of postclypeus with abundant pale-yellow pubescence not obscuring integument; with long pale-yellow setae directed forward laterally close to anteclypeus, and long, erect setae interspersed close to frons, erect setae brown with yellowish apex. Sides of postclypeus glabrous. Labrum with abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument on posterior half and laterally, glabrous on remaining surface, except anterior margin with fringe of golden setae; with long setae directed forward on posterior half. Gulamentum smooth, glabrous, except yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument on intermaxillary process. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.18 times distance between outer margins of eyes; in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.50 times distance between outer margins of eyes. Antennae 2.3 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at basal seventh of antennomere VI. Scape cylindrical, slightly concave on inner surface of apical quarter; with abundant pale-yellow pubescence not obscuring integument dorsally and abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument ventrally and laterally, except two large brownish pubescent areas on inner lateral surface, one from basal quarter to slightly after middle, another on apical third. Pedicel with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument dorsally and apical half of inner surface, and abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining surface. Antennomere III moderately widened on apex of inner surface; with abundant whitish pubescence partially obscuring integument basally, abundant yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining surface, pubescence appearing to be darker or lighter depending on light intensity and source; with short, erect dark-brown setae ventrally. Antennomere IV with pubescence and erect setae as on III. Antennomeres V–X with dense white pubescence on base of dorsal and lateral surfaces, and abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining surface; with short, erect yellowish-white setae interspersed throughout; V with a few short, erect dark-brown setae ventrally; VI with one short, erect dark-brown seta on apex of ventral surface. Antennomere XI with abundant whitish pubescence on base of dorsal surface and entire apex, and abundant, bristly yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining surface.Antennal formula based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.97; pedicel = 0.13; IV = 0.75; V = 0.57; VI = 0.48; VII = 0.44; VIII = 0.44; IX = 0.41; X = 0.37; XI = 0.34.

Thorax. Prothorax wider than longer; anterior constriction narrow, well marked; lateral tubercles large, conical, with apex slightly directed upward, located about middle. Pronotum with five tubercles, one subconical, elevated, located on each side of anterior half, one slightly elevated, with rounded apex, located on each side of posterior half, another subelliptical, moderately elevated, located centrally from anterior third to near posterior margin; with transverse row of coarse punctures near posterior margin, and sparse, moderately fine punctures on sides of central tubercle; black integument maculae with blackish pubescence not obscuring integument; remaining central area with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument, pubescence yellower centrally close to posterior margin, except central tubercle with glabrous area anteriorly, glabrous narrow band posterocentrally, and distinctly sparse pubescence on sides of glabrous posterior area; remaining surface of sides with abundant pale-yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, pubescence denser on some areas, except two small, dense whitish pubescent spots about middle, posterior one very small; anterior and posterior sulcus glabrous. Sides of prothorax with wide, oblique blackish pubescent band centrally, from anterior to posterior margin, abundant yellowish-brown pubescence partially obscuring integument close to pronotum and dense pale-yellow pubescence close to prosternum. Prosternum with abundant yellowish pubescence not obscuring integument laterally, except glabrous anterior sulcus, pubescence gradually sparser, yellowish-white toward center. Prosternal process with abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; narrowest area 0.27 times procoxal width. Mesoventrite with sparse yellowish-white pubescence centrally and dense yellowish pubescence laterally. Mesanepisterna and mesepimera with dense light yellowish-brown pubescence, except wide brown pubescent macula on mesanepisterna. Mesoventral process with abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; apex 0.62 times mesocoxal width. Metanepisterna with abundant light yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument. Metaventrite with abundant light yellowish-brown pubescence close to metanepisterna, dense pale-yellow pubescence close to metacoxae, abundant whitish pubescence on remaining sides and on anterior region, sparse whitish pubescence on remaining central area, except glabrous metathoracic discrimen and more abundant whitish pubescence close to metathoracic discrimen on posterior half. Scutellum with dense yellow pubescent band centrally, widened apically, and very sparse dark-brown pubescence on remaining surface. Elytra. Humeri rounded, slightly projected forward; anterior half subparallel-sided; posterior half gradually narrowed toward obliquely truncate apex; centrobasal crest slightly elevated, with dense tuft of long, erect dark yellowish-brown setae on dorsally; abundantly, coarsely punctate on anterior half, punctures gradually sparser, finer toward apex on posterior half; with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument, pubescence yellower on circum-scutellar area and close to suture on anterior third, except: glabrous area surrounding centrobasal crest, this area transversely widened posteriorly; small glabrous areas surrounding part of punctures on posterior half; two oblique, fragmented, moderately large dark-brown pubescent bands between middle and posterior quarter of dorsal surface; yellowish-brown dashed pubescent band close to suture between anterior and posterior thirds, pubescence yellower than on area close to it; dense, irregular, narrow white pubescent maculae centrally close to suture; small, irregular whitish pubescent spots on sides of dorsal between middle and posterior fifth; yellowish-white pubescent band close to suture on posterior quarter; oblique, irregular yellowish-white pubescent band on posterior fifth of dorsal surface near suture; two irregular, dense, moderately large whitish pubescent maculae on middle of side of dorsal surface, maculae partially surrounded by yellowish pubescence and not obscuring punctures; and epipleural margin with dashed yellowish-white pubescence. Legs. Femora with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, except femoral club with dense zig-zag pubescent band on center of dorsal and lateral surfaces, apex, and large brownish pubescent maculae dorsally and laterally. Tibiae with abundant white pubescence partially obscuring integument basally and entire ventral surface of basal third, dense white pubescent ring before middle, dense white pubescence on apex of dorsal surface, sparse dark-brown pubescence on remaining areas of dorsal and lateral surfaces, bristly yellowish-brown pubescence on apical half of ventral surface, this pubescent area distinctly denser on protibiae; dorsal surface of apical half with short, erect, dark-brown setae, setae distinctly denser on mesotibiae. Dorsal surface of tarsomeres I–II, basal third of tarsomeres III, and basal 2/3 of V with dense white pubescence; remaining dorsal surface of tarsomeres I–II with abundant dark-brown pubescence not obscuring integument; remaining surface of tarsomeres III and tarsomeres IV with sparse brownish pubescence; and apical third of tarsomeres V with moderately abundant brownish pubescence not obscuring integument; dark pubescent area of tarsomeres I–II and basal half of tarsomeres III with moderately abundant dark-brown setae laterally; apical third of tarsomeres V with long, erect yellowish-white setae; metatarsomere I 1.3 times longer than II–III together.

Abdomen. Apex of sides of ventrite 1 with dense pale-yellow pubescence and remaining surface with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, except yellowish pubescence laterally close to metacoxal cavities; sides of ventrites 2–3 with abundant pale-yellow pubescence, distinctly denser on apical half, and remaining surface with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous central apex; sides of ventrite 4 with abundant yellowish pubescence not obscuring integument, and remaining surface with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous central apex; sides of ventrite 5 with moderately dense yellowish-white pubescence laterally, pubescence denser on basal half, and abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument on remaining surface. Ventrite 5 slightly shorter than 3–4 together; apex rounded, with long, erect golden setae directed backward. Last tergite triangularly acuminated, distinctly surpassing elytral apex.

Dimensions (mm). Total length, 11.50; prothoracic length, 1.70; anterior prothoracic width, 2.10; posterior prothoracic width, 2.60; maximum prothoracic width, 3.05; humeral width, 3.95; elytral length, 7.55.

Remarks. Monné & Martins (1976) described Alcathousites senticosus based on three males from Peru. The holotype ( Fig. 92 View FIGURES 87–92 ) and a paratype which originally belonged to the CCCS collection were deposited at the MNRJ and they were destroyed during the fire that completely destroyed the museum. The other paratype is currently deposited in the ZMHB.
