( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 a)
Orchomene tomiokaensis Hirayama, 1986: 12 View in CoL , figs 204–206. ― Barnard & Karaman, 1991: 509.
Types. Female, 10 mm, AMBL-Amph. 61. Paratypes, 2 specimens, AMBL-Amph. 61
Type locality. Tomioka Bay, Ariake Sea, Kyushu, Japan.
Diagnostic description. Head lateral cephalic lobe large, broadly rounded. Antenna 1 peduncular article 1 without anterodistal projection. Labrum, epistome and upper lip fused. Mandible palp article 2 anterodistal margin setose; article 3 with marginal and apical setae. Labium without apical stylets on each lobe. Gnathopod 1 parachelate; basis anterior margin with slender setae; propodus posterior margin smooth. Gnathopod 2 minutely chelate; carpus long; propodus palm obtuse, straight; dactylus fitting palm. Pereopod 6 basis posteroventral margin weakly oblique, almost rounded. Pereopod 7 basis, posterior margin slightly rounded, minutely serrate, posteroventral margin rounded. Epimeron 3 posteroventral corner narrowly rounded to subacute. Urosomites 1–3 dorsally smooth. Uropod 1 rami subequal in length; uropod 2 rami subequal in length; uropod 3 rami subequal in length.
Depth range. Unknown.
Remarks. See also remarks under Waldeckia orchospina , which is very similar to this species. Based on the subquadrate/narrowly rounded posteroventral corner of epimeron 3 and the rounded posteroventral margin of the basis of pereopod 7 Waldeckia tomiokaensis is also similar to W. brachycephala and W. selayarensis , and the southern Australian species W. kroyeri . It differs from both W. kroyeri and W. selayarensis in having a chelate as opposed to a subchelate gnathopod 2, and from W. brachycephala in the relative lengths of the rami of the uropods (subequal in length in W. tomiokaensis ).
Distribution. Japan: Tomioka Bay, Ariake Sea.
