( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 2 View FIGURE 2 )

Tydeus cf. linarocatus sp. n. V, Ripka & Kaźmierski 1998a: 412.

Type material. Female holotype, 1 deutonymph paratype (slide N o 950 =AK H-337) from Acer saccharinum L. ( Aceraceae ), HUNGARY: Mesteri (Vas County), 15 August 1997, coll. G. Ripka.

Relation to host. Leaves of Acer saccharinum . Eriophyidae : Vasates quadripedes Shimer ; Phytoseiidae : Amblyseius andersoni (Chant) , Euseius finlandicus (Oudemans) , Kampimodromus aberrans (Oudemans) , Paraseiulus talbii (Athias-Henriot) ; Tarsonemidae : Tarsonemus nodosus Schaarschmidt ; Tydeidae : Lorryia hungarica Laniecka and Ripka sp. nov., Tydeus californicus (Banks) ; Stigmaeidae : Zetzellia mali (Ewing) [lower side of leaves] (Ripka 1998a; Ripka & Kaźmierski 1998a; Ripka et al. 2002, 2005, see also present paper).

Differential diagnosis. The new species resembles Tydeus linarocatus (Schiess, 1981) in dorsal ornamentation. What’s more, both species have short cheliceral digits. Differences between these species are provided in Table 1.

Description. FEMALE (holotype). Organotaxy typical for genus (Kaźmierski 1989b). Idiosoma. Body broadly oval, yellowish. Body length (excluding gnathosoma): 330, width: 250. Dorsal ornamentation: striation type “ Tydeus ” (Kaźmierski 1998b). Striae armed with tubercles in shape of rods. No reticulation. Eyes not observed. Dorsal body setae narrowly lanceolate (spindle-like), acute, apparently nude, slightly serrate. Bothridia (bo) whiplike, nude, not much longer than remaining setae. Length of setae as follows: bo 38, ro 24, la 24, ex 28, c1 26, c2 28, d1 26, e1 28, f1 28, f2 32, h1 32, h2 32, ps1 (located terminally) 21, ps2 (located ventrally) 16. Distances: c1–c1 74, d1–d1 62, e1–e1 140, f1–f1 58, h1–h1 45, ps1–ps1 43, f1–h1 45. Lyrifissures (3 pairs) displayed typically for most members of subfamily, i.e.: lyrifissures ia behind c2 and almost medially between c2 and d1, lyrifissures im — anteriorly to e1 and laterally to imaginary line c2–e1, lyrifissures ih postero-ventrally, on end of body. Coxal organ: 2 rounded pores embraced by oval ring. Venter striated. Striae between metasternal setae longitudinal. Genital setal formula of female: (0-6-4). Setae ge 10 long, ag 12 long. Pseudanal valves (=lips) striated, ps2 situated off valves. Epimeral formula: (3-1-4-2). Gnathosoma. Visible from above. Cheliceral stilettos short: only slightly longer than half length of palpal tarsus. Palpal tarsal eupathidium (pζ) bent, gradually narrowing apically terminating into a “T”-shape. Seta d bifurcated apically. Palpal chaetotaxy: 6+ ω -2-2.

Measurements: stilettos 12.5, palpal femuro-genu—length 30/width 11, df 15, dg 15, t’ 14, t’’ 7. Palpal tarsus 23/6, (pζ) 6.5, vestigial seta ba 2. Legs. Setation: I (8+ ω -3+ k’’ -3-3-1), II (6+ ω -2-2-2-0), III (5-2-1-1-1), IV (5-2-1- 1-0). Solenidiotaxy: ωI + ωII. Tarsus+apotele I: length 44, width 12, height 14. Solenidion ωI relatively short (6): less than half distance ft–tc. Length of ft’ 14, ft’’ζ 31. Forked famulus k’’ 3, solenidion ωII 4. Empodia with underdeveloped hook in shape of triangular excrescence.

DEUTONYMPH. Body length 245, width 185. Genital region: 2 pores, 2 pairs of genital, and 2 pairs of aggenital setae. Other characters as in female, with exception of proportionally smaller measurements.
