Tropidosaura essexi Hewitt, 1927 View in CoL

Records of the Albany Museum, 3(5):378; Plate XXII, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 .

Syntypes (5): PEM R16094–8 View Materials (formerly AMG 5227 View Materials ) ; Summit of Mont-aux-Sources , Lesotho; Mr. R. Essex, 12 January 1926 .

Remarks. Type description refers to a series of seven specimens, but only five are present in the type bottle transferred from AMG to PEM. No holotype was designated in the original description, but two specimens are illustrated in the plates. We can confidently assign PEM R16097 to the specimen on the left and PEM R16094 to

the specimen on the right of Plate XXII, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 . PEM R16097 is an adult with a complete but regenerated tail; PEM R16069 has a damaged head; other specimens in good condition.
