Sampling in Trigonella sect. Ellipticae
Field trips in north west Himalayan region during flowering and fruiting season were undertaken during 2018–2022 to collect species belonging to Trigonella sect. Ellipticae ( Table 1). During these field visits, seven populations of T. cachemiriana were studied from Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh ( Table 1, Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).For phylogenetic analyses, one accession was sampled from two distinct populations in North Kashmir (Gurez valley, Bandipora district, BSI141608, BSI141703), Central Kashmir (Budgam district BSI141701, BSI141702) and South Kashmir (Anantnag district, BSI141606, BSI141607). One accession of T. cachemiriana was sampled from Ladakh (BSI141562). T. emodi (two accessions BSI141603, BSI141500) was sampled from J&K and Uttarakhand. Of the two accessions of T. gracilis sampled, one was collected from J&K (BSI141605) and the other, sampled from Pakistan ( Table 2, EC 829799, PI 540440) was procured as seeds from United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, The Western Regional Plant Introduction Station (USDA-ARS-WRPIS) Pullman. One accession of T. emodi var. fimbriata (BSI141563) was collected from Himachal Pradesh. T. griffithii (BSI141599) was sampled from J&K ( Mittal et al. 2023b). Two accessions of newly described species, T. kargilensis Mittal, Dangi & Ingle ([2023: 120]AHMA034145 and AHMA034147) were collected from Ladakh ( Mittal et al. 2023a). Despite repeated efforts T. podperae could not be sampled for molecular analyses.
