Distribution & Ecology. Widespread and abundant in southern Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina, and extending through western South America to Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Guyana, but only around the periphery of the Amazon basin. In the eastern and southern part of its range it is common in seasonally dry forest and gallery forest in cerrado, elsewhere it occurs in lowland rain forest along the eastern flank of the Andes. In Ecuador and northern Peru it is present in both tropical dry forest on the Pacific coast and in lowland rain forest in Amazonia. Elevational range up to 1000 m.
