Trematooecia osburni Marcus, 1955 View in CoL
Trematooecia osburni Marcus, 1955: 311 View in CoL , figs 91–93. [Espírito Santo, Brazil]
Trematooecia osburni: Vieira et al. 2008: 29 View in CoL . [ Brazil; checklist]
Remarks. We have examined Canada-Balsam slide mounts deposited at MZUSP that are too poorly preserved for adequate redescription. Trematooecia osburni has encrusting colonies, only marginal frontal-shield pores, a transversely D-shaped primary orifice without condyles, a non-tubercular secondary orifice, elliptical frontal avicularia, spatulate interzooidal avicularia and no suboral avicularia ( Marcus 1955).
The species resembles T. aviculifera , T. protecta and T. ridleyi in having encrusting colonies, a subglobose ooecium and an ectooecium with a circular frontal membranous area, but differs in lacking peristomial tubercles and a suboral avicularium. Trematooecia osburni is known only from the type locality in Brazil. According to Marcus (1955) colonies are white and were found encrusting another bryozoan at 35 m depth.
Distribution. Atlantic: Brazil.
