ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 174 (key), 175 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Not rare (E.) [= England]” ( Walker 1853: 96) [locality for Thelaira nigripes ( Fabricius, 1794) sensu Walker (1853) ]; “ in Apennino agri parmensis , … ab Etruria [Parmese Apennines … Etruria (= Tuscany) ( Italy)]” ( Rondani 1862d: 175) [type locality for Telaira intuenda Rondani, 1862 ].

TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 20): Thelaira Desv. / intuenda Rndn. , ♂ / 1073; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 20): Thelaira Desv. / intuenda Rndn. , ♀ / 1073; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 96): Thelaira Desv. intuenda R., 523, ♂ , Etruria .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Thelaira nigripes ( Fabricius, 1794) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 390) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 175) proposed Telaira intuenda for Thelaira nigripes ( Fabricius, 1794) sensu Walker (1853: 96) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Walker’s redescription of Telaira nigripes , which was based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to an unspecified number of specimens of both sexes he had collected and also received from G. Passerini: “ Semel marem … legi, … Foeminas paucas … observavi [once I collected the male, … I observed a few females]”. Therefore, the type material should be in the collections of Walker (NHMUK) and Rondani. We found five syntypes under the name Telaira intuenda in this study. No specimen under the name Telaira nigripes is present in the NHMUK (N. Wyatt, pers. comm., September 2019). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Telaira , which is an “unjustified emendation of Thelaira Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 176).
