Tapiena parapentagona Liu and Kang , sp. n.
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 i–j, 4 c, l–q)
Type material. Holotype: male, China: Yunnan Prov.: Simao District: Caiyanghe nature reserve, 1400m (at light), 2004. VIII.24, Coll. Liu Chunxiang ( IZAS); Paratype, 1 female, same data as in Holotype ( IZAS).
Description. Male (holotype). Medium-sized. Stridulatory file on underside of left tegmen with about 160 fine teeth ( Fig. 4c View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T ). Tenth abdominal tergum, in dorsal view, strongly produced, straight, not inclined, basal half semicircular, bacilliform apical half densely with rows of spinules; in lateral view, apical half outspreaded dorso-ventrad, ventral margin with 3 sharp spines, apical margin with a large obtuse angular concavity ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T l, m). Cerci cylindrical, slightly curved, apex with one large distal spine and one small sub-apical spine on exterior margin ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T n). Subgenital plate with basal part wide, gradually narrowed, apical margin with a rather large triangular notch, as long as one third length of subgenital plate; styli slender, longer than two thirds length of subgenital plate ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T o).
Female. Tenth abdominal tergum, epiproct, cerci, and ovipositor similar to other congener. Ovipositor with lateral surface approximately smooth, distal 2/3 part of dorsal margin crenulated, and distal 1/6 part of ventral margin serrulate ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T p). Subgenital plate pentagonal on the whole, with lateral margins of basal half part extending outwards, with lateral margins of distal half part contracting and slightly convex, and apical margin emarginated ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4. a, d – j, T q).
Coloration. Green. Compound eyes dark brown. Stripes of lateral surface of fore femur and areas of tympana of fore tibiae brown. Cells of tegmen except that of costal area densely covered with many small dark brown dots. Male cerci with apical spines dark brown. Female ovipositor with apices of both margins brown.
Measurements of male (mm). Length of body: male 12.0, female 13.0; length of pronotum: male 4.5, female 4.5; length of tegmen: male 30.5, female 32.0; largest width of tegmen: male 6.5, female 8.0; length of hind wing: male 35.5, female 36.0; length of posterior femur: male 16.0, female 15.0; length of ovipositor: 6.5.
Comparison. The new species most resembles T. spinicaudata in the size, male subgenital plate and male cerci, but distinctly differs by male stridulatory file, male tenth abdominal tergum. It also similar to T. pentagona Karny, 1923 in the size and pentagonal female subgenital plate, but differs by the female subgenital plate with lateral margins slightly convex (not straight), and with apical margin emarginated (not pointed at apex); it also resembles T. emarginata Karny, 1923 in the size and female subgenital plate emarginated at apex, but differs by the female subgenital plate large and pentagonal (not small and broadly triangular).
Distribution. China (Yunnan Prov.).
