Comments. The species has been recorded both in the Central Sahara and in the Hauts Plateaux. In the Maghreb, Thiéry (1987) distinguishes two subspecies: S. t. torvicornis , which occurs in semi-arid and arid regions, and S. t. bucheti, which occurs in semi-arid to sub-humid regions, each with different ranges and climatic preferences.
