World distribution. Argentina and Chile.

Chilean distribution. From Maule to Magallanes region ( Fig. 117 View FIGURE 117 ).

Altitudinal range. From coastal to precordillera ecosystems (5– 1,200 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. Sterphus coeruleus is mainly associated with native forests. It has been observed feeding on E. cordifolia (Cecilia Smith-Ramírez, com. pers.) and L. sempervirens (R. Barahona-Segovia, pers. obs.). Porter (1932) mentioned this species is present in Aconcagua, which could be an error because it is based on old literature.

Conservation status. LC; AOO = 377,436 km 2, EOO = 192 km 2, 40 subpopulations and 44 localities.
