Stenodactylus elimensis Barbour, 1914
1914 Stenodactylus elimensis Barbour, Proceedings of the New England Zoological Club 5: 79.
This nomen was established by Barbour (1914) based on a single adult specimen collected by J. C. Phillips and W. M. Mann at Wady Gharandel, Sinai. From the description of the itinerary given by Phillips in Barbour (1914), it is obvious that the collection locality is in the lower part of Wadi Gharendel (= Gharandel), approximately around 29°15’N 32°55’E. This specimen is still extant in the Museum of Comparative Zoology—Harvard University (MCZ R-9631, see http://mczbase.mcz.harvard.edu/guid/MCZ:Herp:R-9631). It can be easily identified as Stenodactylus petrii , in accordance with the synonymy in Loveridge (1947) and Arnold (1980). Baha el Din (2006) and Metallinou et al. (2012) suggest that S. petrii might comprise several taxonomic units and propose that a thorough study would be necessary in order to fix the systematics of this complex.
Name-bearing type: Museum of Comparative Zoology—Harvard University MCZ R-9631, holotype by monotypy. Type locality: Lower parts of Wady Gharandel, Sinai, Egypt (around 29°15’N 32°55’E).
Proposed status: subjective junior synonym of Stenodactylus petrii Anderson, 1896 .
