V e r b r e i t u n g:DienominelleSubspezies Bolitobius castaneus castaneus ist damit heute über ganz West-, Mittel- und Südeuropa (mit Ausnahme der Hochgebirge), sowie über Vorderasien verbreitet und erreicht östlich Polen und die Ukraine und nach Norden Dänemark, Süd-Schweden und den atlantisch beeinflussten Teil Norwegens. Der hier angefürte Beleg für Algerien bedarf der Bestätigung, bisher war die Art aus Nordafrika unbekannt. Ob das im SDEI befindliche Exemplar mit der Etikettierung "N.S. Wales " aus Australien stammt (die Farbe der Etiketten [violett] spricht dafür, dass zumindest Australien gemeint ist), bleibt ebenfalls fraglich. Bisher liegen keine weiteren Daten aus

anderen zoogeographischen Regionen vor, die adventive Vorkommen belegen. Dies gilt auch für Nordamerika, von wo " Bolitobius analis " mehrfach gemeldet wurde (siehe auch BERNHAUER & SCHUBERT 1916, SCHEERPELTZ 1933, HORION 1967). Die Meldungen beruhen auf Verwechslungen mit ähnlichen Arten.

Biologie: Über die Lebensweise, Ernährung und Reproduktion der Art ist kaum etwas bekannt. Die Art lässt sich am ehesten in Bodenfallen in grösserer Anzahl nachweisen, sonst meist nur Einzelfunde während der Dispersionsphase, meist im Frühjahr.
