TYPE LOCALITY: “ Bononiae [Bologna ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 4): Sphaerophoria Lep. Serv. / multipunctata Rndn., Bonon. (= Bononiae) [Bologna] / 167 / Sphaerophoria scripta L., ♀, var. nov. syn., det. M. Daccordi, 1994.

CURRENT STATUS: junior primary homonym of S. multipunctata Zetterstedt, 1859 ( Vockeroth 1971: 1632) View in CoL ; doubtful species of Sphaerophoria Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 ( Peck 1988: 46) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Sphaerophoria scripta (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Belcari et al. 1995a: 8) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 134) described Sphaerophoria multipunctata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from C. Tacchetti. Vockeroth (1971: 1632) considered the single female in the MZUF as the holotype.
