Type Locality: "In the foothills of the Uinta Mountains, near Fort Bridger, [Uinta Co.] Wyo[ming]." [ USA].
Vernacular Names: Uinta Ground Squirrel.
Distribution: SC Utah to S Montana, SE Idaho to W Wyoming ( USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Spermophilus ( Hall, 1981:386) . Largely allopatric with its sister species, beldingi ( Harrison et al., 2003) . Reviewed by Eshelman and Sonnemann (2000; Mammalian Species No. 637).
