3. Smithia capitata Dalzell (1851: 208) .
Type citation: — “Crescit in jugo Syhadrensi, prope Parwar-ghât”
Lectotype (designated here): — INDIA. Bombay , s.d., Dalzell s.n. (K000859003!); isolectotypes ( CAL0000012753 About CAL !, CAL0000012754 About CAL ! and CAL0000012755 About CAL !).
Distribution: — India, endemic (Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu).
Notes: — In the protologue of Smithia capitata, Dalzell (1851) mentioned only “Crescit in jugo Syhadrensi, prope Parwar-ghât”, but no type was indicated nor did he mention the date of collection, number of collection and name of herbarium where specimens housed. Four herbarium specimens collected by Dalzell were traced, one at K (K000859003) and three at CAL (CAL0000012753, CAL0000012754 and CAL0000012755) and these should be considered as original material. Of these, the best one and better preserved specimen, K000859003, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
