Notes:— Smilax luzonensis was described by Carl Presl (1827) in Reliquiae Haenkeanae without citing any specimen. Nevertheless, the original description does provide information about the habitat, stating that it originates from the island of Luzon. Koyama (1983) cited two specimens as type i.e., Haenke 290783 and 290785 (PR), collected from Luzon, Philippines. In our quest to locate the type specimens, we found that the type specimens at PR are without collector details. Moreover, these sheets do not explicitly mention the locality and collection date. Nevertheless, upon careful examination, it became evident that these two specimens are not from the same collection, as they bear distinct labels related to Luzon. Koyama’s citation of these two collections does not constitute an effective typification, and they may be considered syntypes. Therefore, following articles 7.11, 9.3, and 9.12 of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018), we designate PR290785 as a lectotype of S. luzonensis because it bears leaves in good condition.
