Diagnosis. Species of medium to large size (4.7–9.5 mm), distinguished by flattened scape and pronotal and elytral dorsum, by setae evidently widened at apex and appressed on elytral dorsum and by slender metatarsi, with first metatarsomere and onychium elongate.
Distribution. Southern France, recorded from Alpes Maritimes to Aude but always very local (type locality: outskirts of Toulon, Fréjus). Spanish literature records: Balearic Is. ( Tenenbaum, 1915).

Type species: Peritelus sphaeroides Germar, 1824 , by subsequent designation.
For description see Pierotti & Bellò (1998). As here delimited (see the new genera Euplister and Pseudoperitelus ), a genus with a Turanic-European distribution, with a possible Maghreb extension ( Fig. 60). Includes three species ( P. sphaeroides Germar, 1824 , P. familiaris Boheman, 1834 and P. ruficornis C. Brisout, 1863 ); imported to North-America, doubtfully represented in Spain by a single species:
