Diagnosis. Gena 0.25–0.28 of eye height. Vertex 0.20–0.22 of head width in male, 0.26–0.30 in female; antenna with postpedicel 2.0–3.1 times as long as pedicel in male, 3.0–3.5 times in female; 3 katepisternal setae, sometimes lower katepisternal seta fine but always present; male abdominal tergites 4 and 5 with dense recumbent hairs dorsally; male postabdomen with surstylus rounded apically in lateral view, tapering and strongly curved inward, about half of cercus length in dorsal view; cerci round near apex in dorsal view; pregonite slightly tapering and rounded apically; female postabdomen not elongate.
Description. Body length: 4.67–6.07 mm
Male. Vertex 0.20–0.22 of head width; inner vertical seta 0.29–0.43 of eye height; frontal vitta 1.7–2.5 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate at middle; 8–9 frontal setae, lowest seta at level of middle of pedicel; approximately 4 reclinate orbital setae, anterior seta stronger than posterior one; parafacial 0.9–1.2 times as wide as postpedicel at mid-height; facial ridge with several setae on lower 0.26–0.33; gena 0.25–0.28 of eye height. Antenna with postpedicel 2.0–3.1 times as long as pedicel, 2.8–4.3 times as long as wide; arista thickened approximately on basal 0.24; prementum 2.5–3.0 times as long as wide.
Thorax. presutural area with 1 longitudinal gray vittae. Usually 3 postpronotal setae, sometimes 2; 3 postsutural intra-alar setae; 3 katepisternal setae, sometimes lower katepisternal seta fine. Wing hyaline or tinged with yellow to light brown anteriorly; relative lengths of 2nd, 3rd and 4th costal sectors 1.0:2.3–3.3:1.0–1.7; distance of vein M from crossvein dm-cu to bend about 0.8–1.0 times distance between bend and wing margin. Legs black, pulvilli pale yellow. Hind tibia with 2–3 anterodorsal, 2–3 posterodorsal seta.
Abdominal dorsum with thin whitish pruinosity on anterior 0.11–0.38 of tergite 3, 0.23–0.24 of tergite 4, and 0.20–0.25 of tergite 5. Hair very dense, recumbent and fine on dorsum of tergites 4–5. Syntergite 1+2 with a pair of median marginal and lateral marginal seta; tergite 3 with a pair of median discal setae, lateral discal, median marginal and lateral marginal setae; tergite 4 with a pair of median discal setae, lateral discal and about 6 marginal setae; tergite 5 with 2–6 discal and 4–12 marginal setae; sternite 5 rounded anteriorly, with few setae on posterior half. Postabdomen. Epandrium nearly trapezoidal and rounded dorsally in lateral view, with some setae; surstylus cylindrical and rounded apically with some setae from apical 1/3 to apex in lateral view, tapering and curved inward with some setae from apical 1/2 to apex in dorsal view; cerci rounded apically with some setae along entire length in lateral view, nearly V-shaped and swollen apically with some setae along entire length in dorsal view; hypandrial arms not fused; pregonite fused with epandrium ventrally at base, pointed apically; postgonite slender and longer than epiphallus and rounded apically; epiphallus slender and long; distiphallus membranous medially with many spinules ventrally in lateral view.
Female. Differs from male as follows: vertex 0.26–0.30 of head width; inner vertical seta strong, about 0.62– 0.70 of eye height; outer vertical seta present, 0.33–0.50 times as long as inner vertical seta; 3–8 frontal setae; 2 proclinate orbital setae; facial ridge with several setae on lower 0.14–0.34; gena 0.20–0.25 of eye height; abdomen with thin whitish pruinosity on anterior 0.25 of tergite 3, 0.25 or 0.33 of tergite 4, 0.33 or half of tergite 5; dorsum of tergite 4 or 5 without dense, recumbent and fine hair; syntergite 1+2 with 0–1 pair of lateral discal setae.
Etymology. All the specimens of this species were collected in Taiwan.
Distribution. Taiwan.
Remarks. The male postabdomen of this species closely resembles that of S. orientalis but is distinguished primarily by the length of the surstylus which is much shorter than the cercus in both dorsal and lateral views.
