Etymology. The specific name honours Dr. Paolo Marcello Brignoli (1942–1986), from the Instituto di Zoologia dell'Universitá di Roma, Rome, Italy, who worked on worldwide Scytodes and first suggested that this could be a new Neotropical species.

Diagnosis. The males of Scytodes brignolii n.sp. resemble those of S. pintodarochai n.sp. by the slender distal area of the male palp, partially covering the retrolateral–ventral sclerotized process ( Figs. 107–109 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ; 119–121). They are distinguished by the shorter distal area and sclerotized process set closer to each other ( Figs 107–109 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). The females are distinguished from those of the remaining Neotropical Scytodes by the presence of a pair of very small hyaline pockets set close together and two pairs of spermathecae, the anterior ones closer to each other and the posterior pointing outwards ( Fig. 111 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ).

Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 92462) Carapace orange, medially yellow, with brown patterns as shown on Fig. 106 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 . Chelicerae orange with dorsal, longitudinal brown stripe. Pedipalps orange with brown prolateral markings. Labium and endites pale yellow. Sternum pale yellow with brown markings in front of each coxae. Legs orange. Femur I-IV with ventral pair of longitudinal brown stripes. Abdomen gray with dorsal black pattern ( Fig. 106 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). Total length 3.6. Carapace slightly domed, 1.9 long, 1.6 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.14, ALE 0.14, PLE 0.14. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and inconspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.14 long, 0.22 wide. Sternum 1.08 long, 0.82 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 4.6, patella 0.6, tibia 4.9, metatarsus 6.3, tarsus 0.7, total 17.1; II: 3.2, 0.5, 3.1, 4.1, 0.6, 11.5; III: 2.0, 0.5, 1.8, 2.0, 0.5, 6.8; IV: 3.0, 0.6, 2.7, 3.2, 0.7, 10.2. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick short and stout on triangular and projected socket. Cymbium with a strong distal spine and a slender subdistal spine ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). Bulb 0.6 long. Distal area with retrolateral short sclerotized process ( Figs. 108–109 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). Abdomen 1.7 long, 1.3 wide, covered with slender hairs.

Female (Paratype, IBSP 13284). Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 5.0. Carapace domed, 2.6 long, 2.1 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.14, ALE 0.14, PLE 0.16. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Palpal femur as in male. Epigynum with straight and narrow positioning ridges with triangular foveas separated from each other by almost twice their width ( Fig. 110 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). Vulva with pair of small hyaline pockets set close together and two pairs of spermathecae, the anterior ones close to each other and the posterior pointing outwards ( Fig. 111 View FIGURES 106 – 117. 106 – 111 ). Abdomen 2.4 long, 2.2 wide, covered with slender hairs.
