Saccharodite pulla Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Fig. 336)

Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length in male about 3.2 mm. Colour stramineous, a mark at junction of frons and clypeus, sides of thorax, middle and hind femora, and abdomen, except genitalia, orange; a small red mark above eyes; apex of scutellum with a bright red mark; fore legs faintly tinted with red. Forewings uniformly infuscated, but near apical margin slightly lighter; a larger, bright red mark in first costal cell, adjoining costal margin; veins bright red, but claval veins, Cu, apices of Sc, R, and M, as well as claval and apical margins stramineous; base of Sc+R without dark spots. Hindwings infuscated, veins red. In profile junction of vertex and face slightly angulated; rostrum reaching hind coxae. Forewings with Sc+R fork just before middle of wing; basal median cell broad, about 2x wider than basal cell between Sc+R and M; a triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles with proximal dorsal process short and slender, distal dorsal process long. Apical part of aedeagus short and broad, with a dorsal impression and a small, membranous, terminal lobe.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (pullus, -a, -um = dark coloured).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.2 mm), INDONESIA: PAPUA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Bodem , 100m, 11 km SE of Oerberfaren / July 7–17, 1959 2) T. C. Maa / Collector / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratype: INDONESIA: PAPUA: Cyclops Mts., Sabron , Camp I: 1,200 ft (400 m), 22. V .1936, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.2), L.E. Cheesman ( BMNH) .

Distribution. Island of New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite pulla shows similarities to the Saccharodite plurima species group (e.g. to Sa. kagoshimana (Matsumura) or Sa. imperiali Zelazny ). However, it stands apart by the wide basal cell between M and Sc+R and by the small and simple male aedeagus. It is further characterized by the infuscated forewings, the red mark in the first costal cell and the red forewing veins, as well as by the red mark on the scutellum tip.
