Saccharodite lucifera Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Fig. 306)
Description. Forewing length in male 2.9–3.1 mm (mean = 3.0, n = 5). Frons with 2 broad, longitudinal, red stripes, meeting at their bases (holotype) or with one joined, broad longitudinal red stripe; base of clypeus with a red mark. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process broad, the short tip curved inwards; distal dorsal process long, with a short, slightly pointed projection at its base. Apical portion of aedeagus with two short, curved, and pointed processes at its base; 2 lobes emerge from the dorsal side of the apical portion, the left one directed forward with a small, pointed tip, the right lobe rounded and directed dorsad.
Note. Very similar to Saccharodite plurima sp. nov. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (lucifer, -era, -erum = bringing light).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.0 mm), EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH; labels: 1) BRITISH N. BORNEO / Tawau, Quoin Hill / 3–7.VII.1962 2) H. Holtmann / Light Trap / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratypes. EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH: SE, Tawau, Quoin Hill , Cocoa Res. Stn. , 19.IX.1962, 1 ♂ (fw. 2.9), Y. Hiroshima ; same data as holotype, 8–14. VII .1962 , 1 ♂ (fw. 3.1); 2 ♂ (fw. 2.9, 3.0), no data, among Borneo material (all BPBM) ; BRUNEI, Labi / Bukit Teraja / 30km S.E. of Seria / 21–28.iii.1979, primary mixed/dipterocarp/forest, alt. 60m, light trap 2/ 25m. above ground/ L. Sutton /B.M. 1985-50, 1 ♂ ( BMNH) .
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite lucifera is very similar externally to Sa. plurima sp. nov., Sa. securifera sp. nov., and Sa. spinosa Zelazny , all three also found in Borneo. However, it has a small, slightly pointed projection on the base of the distal dorsal process of the male genital styles. It can be further distinguished from Sa. plurima and Sa. securifera by the apical portion of the male aedeagus bearing 2 small and pointed processes at its base, and from Sa. spinosa by the aedeagus lacking an apical lobe covered with minute teeth.
