Type locality. Cantareira , São Paulo, Brazil.
Bionomics. Females of Sa. melanonymphe have been collected using avian-baited traps placed at nearly 9 m above ground ( Davis 1944a). Immature stages of this species develop in cut or broken bamboo internodes. Larvae of Sa. melanonymphe were collected in a receptacle in association with those of Sa. aurescens and a species of Toxorhynchithes (Lynchiella) ( Heinemann & Belkin 1979).
Arbovirus infection records. None.
Occurrence in Brazil. States of Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Lozovei 2001; Zequi & Lopes 2001; Marcondes & Mafra 2003; Cardoso et al. 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005; Marcondes et al. 2006; Abreu et al. 2019; Stanzani et al. 2023).
Occurrence in other countries. Argentina ( Wilkerson et al. 2021).
