Rhotana trimaculata Distant, 1906: 312 View in CoL
( Fig. 209)
Redescription. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length about 5.9 mm. In only specimen available, features are obscured by heavy fungal growth. Distant states the colour as "body and legs pale ochraceous, mesonotum (excluding the carinations) infuscate". Forewings with clavus and first costal cell yellowish; broad yellowish bands along hind margin, Ms1 and its branches, M, the apical cross-veins, and the apical margin; small dark marks around 1st, 2nd, and 4th subcostal sectors; last subcostal sector faintly orange. Hindwings with three brown-black marks, the smallest of them at the apex of M, 2 larger ones around the median sectors and separated by a small, but conspicuous, round white dot; the area before these marks and a band across Cu covered with white powder; rest of hindwings faintly infuscated but clear areas at base and near apex. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower level of eyes; rostrum reaching hindcoxae; subantennal processes and lateral carinae of pronotum little developed. Forewings with apical part of Sc slightly sinuate; Sc+R fork just distad of basal third of wing; Ms1 branched at end of its basal third, Ms1b touches apical part of Cu1, a triangle at base of Ms1.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (trimaculatus, -a, -um = with three marks).
Type material. Holotype ♀ (forewing 5.9 mm, body 3.5 mm), SRI LANKA; labels: 1) Type / H. T. 2) Rhotana / trimaculata/ type/ Dist. 3) Calboda / 9.02 4) Distant Coll./ 1911-383 ( BMNH).
Distribution. Sri Lanka
Diagnosis. Rhotana trimaculata resembles R. kuncheriai sp. nov. and R. holtmanni sp. nov., both from Borneo, in coloration and wing markings. It can be easily distinguished from these by the hindwings having two large brown-black marks, which are separated by a conspicuous white dot.
