Description. Forewings 1.8 times longer than wide, length 4.5 mm. Colour stramineous; clypeus, rostrum, fore tibiae, and mesonotum faintly tinted with orange-brown. Forewings not powdered; around clavus base, first-, and second subcostal sector and along apical cross-veins faintly infuscated; brown marks around last subcostal sector and at hind margin just before apex of Cu1; veins stramineous, but last subcostal sector, apex of Sc, some parts of R and M, and the cross-veins between Sc, R, and M orange. Hindwings with three black marks. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower level of eyes; subantennal processes and lateral carinae of pronotum poorly developed; rostrum not reaching hind coxae. Forewings with apical part of Sc strongly sinuate; Sc+R fork in basal third of wing; Ms1 branched before its middle, Ms1b connected to apical part of Cu1 by cross-vein; a triangle at base of Ms1. Pygofer of male genitalia with triangular, lateral projections. Aedeagus ending in a long and pointed process which is curved downwards; dorsal side of apical part with a rounded lobe, its apical margin finely serrated.

Etymology. The species name is a latinized adjective (sabaeus, -a, -um = from Sabah).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.5 mm), MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH; labels 1) SABAH: Sook , / 1500 ft. 17m. SW/Keningan,/ 15.VIII.1977 2) M.E. Bacchaus / B.M. 1978-48 ( BMNH).

Distribution. North Borneo.

Diagnosis. Rhotana sabaea is similar to R. latipennis Walker , R. crassa sp. nov., and R. hirashimai , sp. nov., all also from Borneo. It can be distinguished from these by the brown mark around the last subcostal sector of the forewings as well as the long pointed process and the serrated lobe on the apical part of the male aedeagus.
