Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (excelsus, -a, -um = elevated).
Type material. Lectotype ♂ (designated by Zelazny 1981: 267), PHILIPPINES, Luzon I., Los Baños, Baker . Paralectotype: ♂, PHILIPPINES, Luzon I., Mt. Makiling , Baker (both in MMBC) .
Distribution. Philippines.
