Eurhopalothrix bruchi (Santschi, 1922) View in CoL

( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 )

Rhopalothrix bruchi Santschi, 1922: 256 . Syntype worker: Argentina, Córdoba: Alta Gracia [NHMB, MCZC, MZSP] (not examined). Combination in Eurhopalothrix: Brown & Kempf, 1960: 214 .

Geographic range. Argentina, Paraguay.

Comments. This is a highly distinctive species that has abundant uniform ground pilosity of broadly spatulate appressed setae, but no specialized setae projecting above it. The ground pilosity uniformly covers the clypeus, face, promesonotum, and first gastral tergite. The posterior face of the propodeum has a longitudinal subrectangular lamella instead of an acute propodeal spine. It is one of the smallest known species, with HW <0.5.
