Rheotanytarsus tamaquartus Sasa is described in detail by Wang & Zheng (1993).
Diagnostic characters. This species of the guineensis group is characterized by having the gonostylus abruptly tapered in the apical 1/5, anal point slender, parallelsided and with rounded apex, no anal crests, and median volsella with a large plate and overreaching the superior volsella.
Distribution. The species is known from Japan and Guangdong Province of China.
