San Francisco, 1340 m, ~ 31°12’N, 115°37’W, 22/ 23-VI-93, pinyon-oak-chaparral, Westcott & Equihua (RLWE); Río San Telmo below San Telmo, 23-VI-88, Baumann, Kirschner, Kondratieff, Wells, Whiting (BYUC); El Topo; 13.1 mi (?) Valle de la Calentura; 2 mi S Laguna Hansen, 5600’, 8-VI; 3.2 mi S Laguna Hanson, 27-VII- 63, E. L. Sleeper (CLBC); and 48 mi SE Ensenada, 28-VII; 1 mi S El Condor, 1-VII, both collected by E.L. Sleeper (probably in CAS). Elsewhere in Mexico it is known only from near Monterrey, Nuevo León ( Westcott & Hespenheide 2006). In the U.S. it is widespread in the western states (but not the Pacific Northwest) and occurs from Kansas to Texas. No host records from Baja California are available and only adult hosts, Gutierrezia californica (DC.) Torr. & A. Gray ( Asteraceae ), Prosopis glandulosa and Quercus sp. — the latter two surely being incidental resting places, the first likely a larval host—were provided in Nelson et al. (2008). However, Hetz and Werner (1979) listed Gutierrezia microcephala (DC.) A. Gray and Haplopappus tenuisectus (Greene) S.F. Blake (now Isocoma tenuisecta Greene ), both Asteraceae , as larval hosts.
