Revised description. Medium-sized, moderately slender fusiform shell of up to eight teleoconch whorls, with high spire; apical angle ~40–43°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls convex with broad axial ribs, separated by wider interspaces, overrun by two weak cords on subsutural ramp and three prominent, close-set spiral cords below. Later whorls with narrow subsutural collar, narrow, weakly concave subsutural ramp, rounded shoulder, strongly convex below. Suture moderately incised, shallowly undulating. Axial ribs broad, rounded, weakening adapically, overrun by about 14–15 narrow, subequal primary and secondary spiral cords on penultimate whorl. Last whorl inflated, attaining ~65 of total height, weakly shouldered, strongly convex below, with nine axial ribs most prominent at periphery, fading adapically and abapically, overrun by numerous narrow spiral cords of alternating to subequal strength; shoulder cord slightly strengthened; base strongly constricted with prominent cords of alternating strength. Aperture moderately wide, pyriform. Columellar callus forming narrow, adherent rim. Columella broadly and weakly excavated, slightly twisted at transition to siphonal canal. Anal canal distinctly incised, accentuated by small parietal denticle in fully-grown specimens. Outer lip with weak terminal varix and about 15 thin lirae extending deep within aperture. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, straight.
Discussion. The holotype has spiral sculpture of subequal cords separated by narrow interspaces. Specimens from the Vienna Basin and from Korytnica ( Poland) described by Bałuk (2006) display some variability with a strengthened shoulder cord and narrow cords of alternating strength. The spire whorls of these specimens are more shouldered than the holotype. Such variability is typical for many extant Pseudofusus species, such as P. patriciae (Russo & Olivieri, 2013) , P. profetai ( Nofroni, 1982) and P. rostratus ( Olivi, 1792) (see also Russo 2014).
Paleoenvironment. Coastal inner neritic, shallow marine. The occurrence at Gainfarn and Steinebrunn suggests seagrass environments ( Zuschin et al. 2007; own data, M.H.).
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Poland) ( Bałuk 2006); Vienna Basin: Gainfarn, Steinebrunn ( Austria) (hoc opus); Pannonian Basin: Szob ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1956).
