Type material: Holotype: male: NIGERIA: Benin City , Asaba, 06°10′N, 06°45′E, 3.i.1949, B. Malkin ( CAS). GoogleMaps
Diagnosis: Males of P. perplexa are recognized by the very long whip-shaped embolus in combination with a large T-shaped MA.
Etymology: The species name is an adjective referring to stunning structure of the male palp.
Description: Male (holotype, CAS). Total l 4.85.
Carapace chestnut brown, covered by tiny warts forming a network with polygonal meshes. Carapace l: 2.60; w: 2.10. Sternum warted, l: 1.15; w: 1.30. Abdomen greyish brown, with a large, brown dorsal scutum covering 85% of do abdominal surface area.
Legs orange-brown, covered by fine warts.
Leg spination (leg I missing): fe: III do 0-0-1; IV do 0-1-1; ti: II ve 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2; IV plv 0-1-0; mt: II ve 2-2-2-2; III ve 0-2-0; IV rl 1-0-0 ve 1-1-1.
Male palp ( Fig. 33A, B View Figure 33 ): RTA broad, short, blunt, pointing downward, with ve tooth at base. PTA simple, short, slender, sharp, situated far backward. Embolus long, slender, whip-shaped, running from base of prolateral side to proximal part of retrolateral side. MA large, roughly T-shaped, attached at centre of transverse bar. FC absent. Proximal part of tegulum slightly extended forward with frontal part wide, rounded. PAPT large, triangular, tooth-shaped, pointing outward. RAPT absent. CAPT broad, with longitudinal fold, rounded at tip.
Female unknown.
Known geographical distribution: Nigeria ( Fig. 40 View Figure 40 ).
