Type material. Lectotype of Praocis pentachorda (Fig. 3): [Cordova] [ Praocis / pentachorda / Burmeister, 1875 / Typus] [Lectotypus / Praocis pentachorda / Burmeister, 1875 / Des. G. Flores 2006] ( MACN). Note: Flores (2007: 418) designated lectotype.

Holotype of Praocis larraini (Fig. 4): [ Chile settentr./ Highland of Iquique/ Caraguano/ leg. H. Larrain] [Alto Patache/ Iquique] [Holotypus] [ Praocis / larraini / Marc.] [Dono Prof./ G. Marcuzzi/ XI-1999] [Holotypus / Praocis (Postpraocis) / larraini / Marcuzzi, 2000] [Museo Civico di Genova] (Museo de Genova). One paratype same data as holotype ( MSNG).

Discussion. Marcuzzi (2001) described Praocis larraini and compared it with P. costata Solier , from which it is clearly distinguished. Howewer, the characters given by Marcuzzi (2001) for P. l a r r a i n i are the same traits stated by Kulzer (1958) in his key of Praocis (Postpraocis) to distinguish P. pentachorda and studied here in the lectotype of P. pentachorda (Figs. 3–4): pronotum minutely and densely punctured, with posterior angles very acute and prominent; each elytron with three main carinae, the external joined to the broad lateral margin, with three secondary ones, of which the internal only marked in the posterior half of the internal intercostal space (between main carina and suture), internal intercostal space broad, flat and punctate, remaining intercostal spaces lacking punctures, with protuberances.
