Range: —Southern Mexico; Colombia to western Venezuela and Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), northern Argentina.
Ecology: —Very common; terrestrial or in rock crevices, occasionally epiphytic, in paramos, punas, wet montane forests, cloud forests; (1500) 2100–4700 m.
Notes: —Characterized by small fronds, elliptic blades, short-creeping, often branching rhizomes with short internodes, and short segments less than 5 mm long. In Bolivia, it is most similar to M. personata , but its fronds are generally smaller and have setiform hairs, rarely longer than 1.5 mm, evenly distributed on the lamina abaxially (vs. to 2 mm and clustered in the sori in M. personata ).
