Plekocheilus (Eudolichotis) distortus ( Bruguière, 1789)
( Figs 14 View FIGURE 14 E, 19G–H, O–P)
The different varieties within this widespread species are ill-defined and their variation within the total distribution is poorly known. Further anatomical, morphometric and molecular research is needed. For the time being, we have treated all material as P. distortus .

Altitudinal range. The localities listed comprise a range from just above sea level (Acandí, Rio Paya) to 2700 m.
Remarks. This species ranges from Panama, across all Colombian cordilleras to the eastern plains and into Venezuela. Although we present few records, P. distortus is known to be widely distributed in Venezuela; Tello (1975) reported this species from the following additional Estados in Venezuela: Anzoátegui, Distrito Federal, Guárico, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, and Sucre. There are many locations named San Esteban in Venezuela, including those in Estados Lara, Falcón and Carabobo. Thus, the distribution of P. distortus is primarily in northern Venezuela extending to the eastern end of this country. However, its distribution in the Meta area of Colombia (this paper) and in Brazil ( Simone 2006), suggests a broader distribution in northern South America.
