Taxonomy. Plecotus strelkovi Spitzenberger View in CoL in Spitzenberger al., 2006,
“ KYRGYZSTAN, Teploklyuchenka. 20 km SE of Mikhaylovka near the eastern shore of Lake Yssyk kul.”
This species is monotypic.
Distribution. E Kazakhstan, E Tian Shan in NW China, W Mongolia, E Kyrgyzstan, E Tajikistan, and N Afghanistan; possibly NE Iran. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 4958- 5 mm, tail 42-51 mm, ear 35-40 mm, forearm 40-44 mm; weight 6-:8-9- 3 g. Dorsal fur is of medium density (3-13 mm long), light or dark brown to gray or buff, with hairs tricolored (black bases, straw-colored middle, and pale tips); ventral fur sparser and less dense (7-10 mm long), lighter or more yellowish, with hairs bicolored (dark bases and white tips). Wings brownish, and fairly translucent. In some specimens,tail has a few hairs on proximal part. A form of collar of whitish hairs (basal part pale) is present on neck and on basal parts of pinnae. Facial skin pale, contrasting with dark muzzle; forehead usually covered with short fur, while chin only has a few sparse, short hairs. Tragus 18-19 mm long. Thumb length ¢. 8 mm, claw ¢. 2-9 mm. Braincase is slightly inflated, with weak constriction between frontal and parietal zones; zygomatic bone is robust; and C! is long and slender.
Habitat. The few individuals identified at species level suggest that species can be found in riparian forest embedded in desert steppes or xeric mountains, for example in desert zone of Dzungarian Gobi, south-western Mongolia.
