Platycranus bicolor Wagner, 1973: 122 View in CoL [n.sp.]; Schuh, 1995: 182 [cat.]; Wagner, 1974: 152 [descr.] Platycranus wagneri Carapezza, 1997: 79 View in CoL [new name]

Diagnosis. Distinguished by the following combination of characters: first antennal segment, head, pronotum, scutellum and inner margin of hemelytron dark brown ( Figs. 24–25 View FIGURES 12 – 25 , 57 View FIGURES 46 – 57 ); first antennal segment relatively short, 0.3-0.4 × as long as width of head, covered with scarсe scalelike setae; interramal lobes strongly twin-coned, lateral cone sharp and curved medially ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 182 – 187 ). Most similar to P. genistae and P. pictus but differs from both species in having smaller body size, and also from P. genistae in short and gentle vestiture of first antennal segment.

Redescription. Male. Small, 3.0–3.5. COLORATION. Head: brown, with yellowish frons ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 46 – 57 ); sometimes entire head yellowish; first antennal segment dark brown, second segment contrastly yellow, third and fourth segments slightly darkened. Thorax: pronotum brown, sometimes except lateral margins; exposed part of mesonotum, scutellum and scuto-scutellar suture dark brown; pronotal sides brown, meso- and metapleura yellow. Hemelytron: yellow, inner margin brown; membrane dark. Legs: yellow, apical part of third segment dark brown. Abdomen: dorsally brown, ventrally yellow. SURFACE AND VESTITURE. Mesial stiff setae on first antennal segment absent; antenna with brown simple setae. STRUCTURE. Head: vertex 1.9–2.43 × as wide as eye; first antennal segment 0.32–0.35 × as long as width of head; second antennal segment 1.25–1.39 × as long as width of head and 1.24–1.37 × as long as width of pronotum. Thorax: pronotum with slightly concave anterior and posterior margins, 1.97–2.10 × as wide as long and 0.98–1.02 × as wide as head. Hemelytron: cuneus twice as long as wide. Legs: third tarsal segment nearly equal in length to first and second combined; pulvillus relatively short, not reaching midpoint of claw. GENITALIA. Right paramere with strongly tapering sharp apex ( Figs. 149–150 View FIGURES 146 – 150 ).

Female. Small, 2.8–3.0. COLORATION, SURFACE, AND VESTITURE. As in male. STRUCTURE. Similar to male except larger interocular distance, vertex 2.62–2.94 × as wide as eye; first antennal segment 0.27–0.34 × as long as width of head; second antennal segment 0.94–1.16 × as long as width of head and 1.0–1.22 × as long as width of pronotum; pronotum 2.07–2.29 × as wide as long and 0.94–1.0 as wide as head. GENITALIA. Interramal lobes strongly twin-coned, lateral cone sharp and curved medially ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 182 – 187 ); sclerotized rings as in Fig. 168 View FIGURES 162 – 168 .

Distribution. Distributed in southern Greece (Attica, Peloponnese, Western Crete, and Rhodes) (Fig. 59).

Host associations. According to Wagner (1974), the host plant is Genista sp.; all material collected by Linnavuori (1999) in Greece was from Genista acanthoclada de Candolle.
