This species is quite variable, having four, two, or even no elytral fasciae. Its unmarked forms resemble P. ursae Knull View in CoL [= hirtellus (LeConte) View in CoL ], but can be separated by the presence of medial and lateral callosities on the pronotum, which is generally smaller, rounded, and not as wide as the width across of the elytral humeri.
