23. Phyllophaga (Phyllophaga) longicornis (Blanchard, 1851)
Redescription. Genital male capsule is narrow and cylindrical ( Fig.92 View FIGURE 92 ); parameres are short, wide with a pair of short, lateral-ventral projections directed towards the base; aedeagus is membranous with parchment-like texture. A long feathery crest projects from the base, ending in a series of small setae.
Comments. The species was originally described from a male specimen obtained during the M. de Castelnau trip, very possibly mislabeled with the data "Amer. Bor.". Blackwelder (1944) attributed this species to Brazil, while Frey (1975) attributed it to "Columbien" and illustrated part of its genital capsule ( Fig. 92 View FIGURE 92 ). It should not be confused with P. (Phytalus) longicornis (Burmeister) , which, as stated above, is a synonym of P. obsoleta .
