Phthinia ramificans Zaitzev, 1993 View in CoL
Figs. 39–43 View FIGURES 39 – 43. P
Material examined. 2♂♂ [ CNCI], CANADA: QUE: Old Chelsea, 30–VIII–1961, J.R. Vockeroth; ♂ [SJF], CANADA: BC: Upper Carmanah Valley, UTM: 10U CK 803005, 20 VI–3 VII–1991, N. Winchester, CC MT1.
Diagnosis and comments. Phthinia ramificans is most similar to P. neptunei n. sp., but can be distinguished by the structure of the male terminalia; see “diagnosis” under P. neptunei . The female is unknown.
Discussion. This species was previously known only from the holotype male; British Columbia, Prophet River, Provincial Campground, Alaska Highway, 10.08.1978, Arnaud [CASC]. In addition to the figures provided in the present study, the male terminalia of P. r a m i f i c a ns have also been illustrated by Zaitzev (1993).
Bionomics. Phthinia ramificans is a rarely collected species. Based on the limited records from British Columbia and Quebec, it seems to exhibit a boreal distribution. Seasonal distribution is July–August.
