Phanernotera brevicauda View in CoL sp. nov. (Plate 1 a–j)
Holotype: male, China: Sichuan Prov.: Maerkang, 2500m – 2900m, Coll. Wang Ruiqi ( IZAS).
Paratype: 1 male, 3 females, same data as in holotype ( IZAS).
Description: Holotype (male). Lateral lobes of pronotum longer than high (Plate 1a). Tegmina and wings well developed; tegmen not transparent, slightly surpassing hind knees; hind wings slightly longer than tegmen. Radial sector branching before middle of tegmen, bifurcate. Fore coxae armed. Fore tibiae without dorsal spines, mid tibiae with 3 interior dorsal spines, hind tibiae with 36 exterior dorsal spines.
Stridulatory apparatus much longer than wide. Male stridulatory file “S”-shaped, with about 40 stridulatory teeth (Plate 1b). Epiproct large, rectangular, lateral and apical margins even (Plate 1d,h). Cerci long, slightly incurved, gradually tapering from base to apical third, and apical third gradually widened, interior margin convex, and contracted into a large obtuse apical spine (Plate 1d,f,g). Subgenital plate long, narrow, gradually tapering towards apical fourth, apical fourth part with subparallel lateral margins, apical margin with slightly deep, sharp angular notch, and ventral surface with distinct longitudinal carinae (Plate 1e).
Female. Ovipositor falcate, lateral surface matte, dorsal margin and apical 1/6 part of ventral margin serrulate (Plate 1i,j). Subgenital plate approximately triangular, slightly longer than wide, with obtuse apex (Plate 1j). Color: Dark green. Compound eyes and antennae red brown. Head, occiput, pronotum, each femur and tibiae covered with numerous reddish brown dots. Dorsal surface of tegmen, including stridulatory apparatus, reddish brown. Measurements (mm): length of body: male 18.0–19.0, female 27.0; length of pronotum: male 4.2–4.5, female 4.5; length of tegmen: male 32.5–33.0, female 35.5; tegmen width: male 4.5, female 5.5; length of exposed part of hind wing: male 3.5–4.0, female 4.5; length of fore femur: male 8.5–9.0, female 11.0; length of mid femur: male 13.0, female 17.0; length of hind femur: male 24.5–26.0, female 24.5; length of ovipositor 7.0.
Etymology: The name refers that this new species possesses distinguishable short exposed part of hind wings.
Discussion: This new species is distinguished from others in the genus mostly by the following: its short exposed part of hind wings, shape of lateral lobe of pronotum, and male and female abdominal structures.
Distribution: China (Sichuan Prov.).
PLATE 1, Phaneroptera brevicauda sp. nov.. a, head and pronotum, lateral view; b, male stridulatory file on underside of left tegmen, ventral view; c, male hind femur, lateral view; d, male abdominal apex, lateral view; e, male subgenital plate, ventral view; f, male left cerci, dorsal view; g, male left cerci, apico-dorsal view; h, male epiproct, dorsal view; i, female subgenital plate, ventral view; j, female apex, lateral view.
