Peratochetvs philippii Rondani, 1863 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 43.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Gen. Grallomya a Celiphus): Peratochetus philippii Rnd. , Valdivia / M. Zool. N° 11477.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Alloclusia philippii ( Soós 1968: 2) ; valid species, as Apiochaeta philippii ( Lonsdale & Marshall 2008: 20) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 43) described Peratochetvs philippii , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 34) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “745” from Valdivia [ Valdivia (southern Chile)]. Lonsdale & Marshall (2008: 21) incorrectly designated the neotype believing that Rondani’s Neotropical specimens, originally deposited in the MZUN, had been destroyed. We consider the single MZUN female as a syntype and therefore invalidate Lonsdale & Marshall’s neotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 75.8). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Peratochetvs ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Peratochetus Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 139).
