Pentacentrus rectangulus Ma, Xie & Dai , sp. nov.
Chinese name: WDZK̊
( Figs.1–2 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURE 2 )
Materials examined. Holotype. China: Male , Pingbian County, Yunnan Province, 30-vi-2024, Dai Jinhong coll. ( SNNU).
Description. Male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Body slender, densely pubescent. Head uniformly yellowish-brown, convex occiput in lateral view and inclined vertex. Cheeks narrow. Eyes brown with black spots and gray-white markings; ocelli round, equal size, arranged in a line. Antennae filamentous, well-developed scape shield-shaped; scape and peduncle same color as first three flagellomeres. Frontal rostrum slightly convex, covered with bristles, width as antennal scape. Postclypeal suture weakly and medially arched. Labrum wide, heart-shaped, plump sides; clypeus shield-shaped, arcuate base, protruding tip. Maxillary palpus dark brown, short thick terminal segment right-angled triangle, with equal length of third segment; labial palpus terminal segment blade-like, as long as first two segments. Pronotum trapezoidal and flattened; the anterior margin narrower than the posterior; anterior straight, posterior convex middle. Tegmen extending abdominal apex, yellowish-brown with dark brown spots; proximally wide, tapering; fine longitudinal veins parallel, intersected at base, between them with cross-veins, and around these cross-veins ornamented with black spots. Anterior tibiae swollen at the middle, inner tympanum long oval, without outer tympanum. Posterior tibiae armed with dorsal spines at base, and dorsal spurs apically; the inner and outer with dorsal spurs three; apical spurs six, three ones on each side (middle outer spur longest, lower inner spur shortest).
Genitalia ( Fig.2 View FIGURE 2 ). In dorsal view, the epiphallus resembles an “M” shape, with the middle lobes appearing as two nearly elliptical lobes, and the lateral lobes curved inward, connected to the middle lobe in an arc shape. In lateral view, the dorsal side of the middle lobe of the epiphallus bears spinous projections, while the lateral lobes of the epiphallus taking on a triangular form; the ectoparamere appears strip-like, with its proximal end bending at a right angle towards the dorsal side. In ventral view, the inner margin of the lateral lobes of the epiphallus bearing a cluster of long setae; the base of the ectoparamere swollen, gradually tapering towards the terminal end.
Female. Unknown.
Coloration. Body brown, covered golden hairs. Head uniformly yellowish-brown, maxillary palps black, ocelli yellow, eyes brown, antennae flagella black and white. Legs and cerci yellow, hind femur covered with brown stripes.
Measurements. Male (n=1). BL 6.86, HL 1.10, HW 2.09, PL 1.34, PW 2.12, FWL 8.64, HFL 5.12.
Distribution. China (Yunnan).
Etymology. The species name “ rectangulus ” is derived from the “right-angle” shape of ectoparamere in the lateral view.
Remarks. This species is the twelfth species of the genus Pentacentrus discovered in China so far. P. rectangulus is similar to P. bituberus and P. medogensis in that they all lack longitudinal stripes on the occiput and have brown stripes on the hind femur. However, the lateral lobes of the epiphallus in P. bituberus are devoid of setae, whereas those in P. rectangulus possess clusters of setae. Additionally, in P. medogensis , the color of the scape and pedicel of the antennae differs from that of the first three flagellar segments, and the lateral lobes of the epiphallus are significantly longer than the ectoparamere, almost twice as long. In contrast, the color of the scape, pedicel, and the first three flagellar segments of the antennae in P. rectangulus are uniform, and the lateral lobes of the epiphallus are shorter than the ectoparamere.
